The Words I Say

Every word I say
comes from a place
that is centered on the heart
and the voice my claim
Every word I say
speaks volumes the same
but what does it mean
for they are not just mere words
but a proclamation of what is to say.

Yet what did you hear
that which was said,
rather picking our meaning
from our head
and create our own story
yet silencing the words
the heart of the place
the words I say.

Motivation for this Poem
Which is more important to you? To listen or to be heard? These two questions are a call to ponder the state of our society and how we engage with each other. Every word said has value and that value is realized when we listen. Our words have weight and volume. our ears have depth and meaning.
